July......? It did fly!

My, how time flies when you're old as dirt! July was my birthday month, and I managed to squeeze everything I could out of that event. My birthday was my excuse for buying new shoes, new jewelry, new shelves, new yarn, new clothes. In any event, it perked up the summer doldrums a bit.

We had a lot of fun visiting with Rachie and Noelle. We managed to spend a little time together at Wheeler Farm and just plain 'ole soaking in the little swimming pool on the hottest day of the year. It was actually nice and cool compared to the weather in Arizona, so I tried not to complain too much (at least not in front of Rachel). Ryan was at home slaving over his Arizona laws, rules and regulations in preparation for the bar exam in latter July. Boo joined Rachel and Noelle for Billy and Becca's wedding the weekend before the exam, then they all went home together after the wedding. Sure will miss them.

So, now we're into August. The garden is growing fine, and the birds are really enjoying trying to get the corn, spinach and beets. I don't think they've discovered the sugar snap peas. There are only a few of those, but they're pretty tasty. The tomatos haven't ripened yet because we didn't get them planted as early as we usually do, but they're making progress. Can hardly wait for that first one - I'm going to eat it like an apple! We did get our first cucumber and had a lovely little salad, and last night I did the breaded zucchini in "EVOO". Yummo! Randy said it was the best! The corn is as high as an elephant's eye. No kidding.... it's so neat to see everything grow like that. I think we may have a pretty good harvest. Everything I planted came up, and I do believe we'll have a bumper crop of pumpkins. So kids, come October, come on over to pick one out.

The owl is a nice addition to the garden. It looks great. Can't wait to partake of the fruits of you labors :)
