Sweet Saturdays with Randy

On November 10 Randy and I decided to escape the city and head east to Park City to see what the "Adopt a Native Elder Rug Show" had to offer. The proceeds of this event helps raise funds to meet the needs of the elderly on the reservations to sustain them through the winter. We browsed the beautiful rugs hand made by the sweet "Ya ya's", some so old they were blind and deaf and wove these traditional art pieces by memory or with the help of their granddaughters at their side to guide them.
On the lighter side, we went on our way up to Heber City and went to the Cowboy Poetry Gathering & Buckaroo Fair at the high school where we found some mighty fine cowboy poets and some super cowboy music - some old timers and some young folks on their way to fame and fortune! We found one group toward the end of the night we especially liked called "Stampede". Three performers, that were a lot of fun. We visited with them after their performance and found connecting threads in Star Valley. The female vocalist was from there and had written a song about Wyoming and took us out into the hall where the group sang just to Randy. I do believe that tough cowboy had a tear in his eye, and was so pleased and touched by her song. This was a place he could wear his cowboy attire and just blend in with the crowd and just be the cowboy he enjoys being. It was a sweet Saturday with my Randy.

Trip to Bean Town...

October 16-23 I took my trip to New England to visit my Boston girls. This is such a great place to be in the Fall. The colors were so beautiful, and we were able to enjoy some nice rides through the countryside to peep at the colors and visit an apple orchard to taste some fresh cider donuts. They had just taken them out of the oven as we got there, and they were so delicious! Rebekah joined us a couple days later, and we did a little shoping, finished a quilt she had been making, and took a trip to Salem to visit a nifty quilt shop, cross stitch shop and knitting shop. Wish we could have lingered a little longer there, but it was really crowded with a lot of fairly strange folks. That place gets weird around Halloween. We got to spend some QT with the little Bean. She sure is growing up fast - talking a lot and keeping us in stitches with her cute little ways. We went to the fabulous "Wicked" Broadway show on Sunday night and had such a great time! Thanks, Albertsens, for a wonderful week!

Ymmmmmmy!

Today I decided I'd play Suzy Homemaker and make a crock pot dinner. I had all the ingredients and followed the recipe precicely (well almost). Turkey (healthy) Chili with cornbread muffins. Doesn't that sound so so good? It simmered all afternoon with mouthwatering aromas filling the air. I could hardly wait for Randy to come home and sample my delicious chile. He walked in the door and right away commented on how wonderful his dinner smelled and asked how his "domestic goddess" was doing. He, too, was looking forward to sample the soup. I set the table nicely and pulled the muffins out of the oven just as he sat down, then I dished it up. Randy took the first taste... "YEOW! Renee, don't touch it!" I thought it was temperature hot..... NOT.... well, this is the reason why I don't cook. I put red pepper in it because there was no chili powder to be found. Yup - 2 TB! Randy only puts a pinch of red pepper in his chile, and we all know his has a "kick". I guess I don't cook enough to know the difference. Needless to say, after the tears, my chile went to the compost pile where it may be put to good use killing some weeds. As our old friend, Jimmy Buffet, once said, "If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane." Now, what's for supper, grandpa?
